Gösta Adrian-Nilsson (GAN) was a Swedish artist and author. He is considered to be one of the foremost significant pioneers of the Swedish modernist art movement. GAN studied at Tekniske Selskabs Skole in Copenhagen and later under Johan Rohde at the Zahrtmann’s School in Copenhagen. He debuted as an artist at Lund University Art Museum in 1907. GAN showed an eclectic style based on the art styles of the twentieth century from which he created his own mode of expression. GAN’s work encompassed symbolism, cubism, futurism, expressionism, constructivism and theosophy. No other Swedish artist has ever demonstrated such a singular eclectic style.
