Paavo Tynell (1890-1973) Finland

Paavo Tynell, born and active in Helsinki, Finland was a designer specialised in light design, lamps and lamp fixtures. He started his career as a tinsmith but quickly evolved his knowledge and by 1913 he was ranked as a master craftsman. Tynell studied at Helsinki University of Industrial Arts where he later on also teached, with students such as Gunnel Nyman and Kaj Franck on his resume. Some of his more noteable collaboration partners are Alvar Aalto and Aarne Ervi, and Tynell is amongst other things known for designing the lighting at Lasi Palatsi (the Glass Palace) in Helsinki.
