Claude Monet (1840-1926) France

Claude Monet was a French artist who, together with Pierre-Auguste Renoir, is considered to be a pioneer of Impressionism. Monet studied at the École des Beaux Arts, but wanted to develop his painting in a different direction than the traditional. Monet befriended Pierre-Auguste Renoir at the École des Beaux Arts, and together they devised a new approach to viewing painting. They painted the effects of outdoor light using blended colors and rapid brushstrokes, the art style that later became known as Impressionism. Monet often painted a series of paintings with the same subject in different lighting conditions.
