Vintage

The term 'vintage' on the collectors' market generally encompasses items of notability or high quality from past decades. This title is particularly common for fashion, jewelry, watches, posters, cars and furniture. Certain vintage clothing and accessories are coveted for their designer status, such as the Chanel 2.55 bag or Hermès iconic silk scarves. In 2011, a vintage Christian Dior evening gown and matching handbag - both adorned with silver-encrusted brocade - owned by the late Elizabeth Taylor sold for $362,500 at auction with Christie's, New York. Amongst motor enthusiasts, the term 'vintage' refers to cars dated between 1919 and 1930; some of the most famous examples of vintage automobiles are the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost and Ford Model T. On the used watch market, the term covers a broader time period, with watches manufactured as late as the 2000s being considered vintage.
