Carl Johan Fahlcrantz (1774 – 1861) Sweden

Carl Johan Fahlcrantz was one of Sweden’s foremost landscape painters, who began to draw and paint from an early age. At age 16 Fahlcrantz was admitted to the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts where he began to study under the tutelage of Tobias Sergel. Throughout his artistic career he maintained close ties with the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, where he became a professor in 1819. Fahlcrantz painted arranged scenes with lyrical undertones and over time his paintings took on a more detailed character.

Fahlcrantz’s work is well-represented at Nationalmuseum, the royal palaces and the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts.
