Endré Nemes (1909-1985) Hungary/Sweden

Endre Nemes was born in Czechoslovakia and fled to Sweden in 1940 prior to World War II. The following year he held his first solo exhibition in Sweden. Nemes made a name for himself through his surrealistic paintings and his many enamels in public art. His public art can be found in places such as the municipal building in Alafors and the Zodiak Clock from 1950, located in the center of Västertorp in the Stockholm suburbs.

Nemes taught at the Valand School of Fine Art in Gothenburg from 1947 to 1955 and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Gothenburg in 1984.
