Berthe Morisot (1841- 1895) France

Berthe Morisot was a French impressionist painter. Morisot studied at École des Beaux-Art in Paris and later with Camille Corot. Morisot was an acquaintance of Claude Monet, Frédéric Bazille and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. In 1874 she staged an exhibition together with fellow artists in Paris. Since the artists whose works were on display were considered to be the inner circle of Impressionism, this event has come to be called the first Impressionist exhibition. Morisot's paintings are characterized by her seductive colors and bold technique. She painted subjects almost exclusively from the private and social sphere of the bourgeois woman.

Morisot was married to Edouard Manet's brother Eugéne.
