Hugo Backmansson (1860-1953) Finland

Finnish visual artist Hugo Backmansson was born in Paimio and studied at Turku Drawing School and the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg. Backmansson served as an officer in the Russian army until 1899, after which he devoted himself entirely to art. In the early twentieth century he traveled to Morocco and Tangiers, which provided inspiration for his painting.
