1st-2nd c. AD Repoussed Dedicatory Diadem for a Statue, with Greek inscription, sealed in lexan with an engraved transcription below, housed in a fitted leather case, the diadem is 12 1/2" long, the case is 4" x 16". Some damage to exterior of case, contents are good. Created in the Hellenistic world, probably Asia Minor, the Greek inscription reads "The Wish of the Assembly of Friends to the Son of Gaius, Roman Benefactor to this City, this Statue is Dedicated". Romans were admirers of Greek culture and many became benefactors of Greek cities, most famously Hadrian with grand temples and libraries erected by him for the Greek city of Athens in the 2nd century AD.
