Handsome copperplate engraved Alexis-Hubert Jaillot map of the southern part of the Kingdom of Naples, in original hand color, published by Jean Claude Dezauche, Paris, 1781. The map is titled Partie méridionale du royaume de Naples / Par le Sr Jaillot Géographe ordinaire du Roy. The coverage area includes the Italian peninsula south of Tursi, Calabria, the Gulf of Taranto, the Lipari Islands, the Apenine Mountains, Cosenza, Messina, and the northeastern tip of Sicily. There are four distance scales in an ornate cartouche at lower left, with measurements in Italian, Spanish, and German miles, as well as "Lieues d'une heure de chemin." The image area of this map measures 43 x 74.5 cm [17" x 29½"] on a larger sheet, with two vertical folds, as issued. Condition: This map is in very good condition, complete and intact, with a few minor wrinkles and faint water stains in the margins at left and right.
