Fluorite Huanzala Mine, Huallanca, Huallanca District, Bolognesi Province

About the item

This is from the original Peruvian pink Fluorite find, 40 years ago, that Rock imported and sold at retail prices. A mad scramble among various dealers, collectors and museums (ahem, Smithsonian, etc.) to acquire specimens, ensued. Only Rock, and the Belsher's, of Denver, had the pink Fluorite in the U.S., but another small lot did make it to Europe. In any case, there were only a few and in true Currier style, he kept the best of his lot for his collection. All had green coloration in the centers of the octahedral crystals surrounded by light pink extending all the way to the exterior faces. Rumors at the time alleged fading of color in sunlight, so Rock left some on the roof of his garage for several weeks, months. Result?  - no change, no fading. Since that time, hopes for more production of the pink ones have pretty much died - it was a one-pocket wonder. Don't have one? Well, what are you waiting for?  RHC #4435, acquired 1979[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]HID07601242017
