The fifth edition of this iconic Baptist text. In 1677 this text was first published, being the first formal expression of the Particular Baptists of England, who believed in a form of Calvinism. After the Act of Toleration (1689), the text was publicly endorsed by various English and Scottish Baptists; the Baptist community thereafter developed many churches in the Colonies, eventually forming the Philadelphia Baptist Association in 1707, which adopted this text as their formal expression of their faith.
