About the item

The Detroit Tigers were a charter member of the American League. Some of the baseball's finest have gone through the Motor City and called Detroit home. This "Spalding" gamer was worn in the 1920's - when Ty Cobb was still running roughshod over the competition. The original team insignia is still proudly displayed over the chest and four buttons are firmly in-place on front. Red ink saturation is found on the ventilation holes under the arms. A period Spalding tag is sewn in the collar as is "McHugh" written in black ink. We were able to find a newspaper article which mentions Richard McHugh who had a tryout for the Detroit Tigers. He was then sent to Portsmouth club. Red staining is also visible in the tail (front and back). A pair of "Spalding" pants (with belt) completes the ensemble. A rare flannel jersey/pants combination from the early days of the Tigers. .HID07601242017
