1911 Berger Postal Card Co. Philadelphia Athletics & New York Giants
Closed Auction

About the item

The 1911 World Series was poised to be a battle royal between the New York Giants and the Phil. Athletics. On the mound for New York was Mathewson and Marquard who went toe-to-toe with Plank and Bender of the churning A's dynasty. The Berger Postal Card Co. produced these scarce 6-1/2" x 4-7/8" "Souvenir Folder" mailers featuring managers McGraw and Mack. Inside each are portraits of players that open like an accordion on thin paper panels protected by an outer envelope. Includes: - Twenty players with Bender, Plank, Coombs, Baker and Collins with an action scene on the outside mailer. Currently in three pieces: Front cover and three 2-player panels, seven 2-player panels and, a separated back cover. Splits at fold are common;  - Eighteen players with Mathewson, Marquard, Merkle, McGraw, Snodgrass plus others. Completely intact but partial splits at folds are common. Neither relic was used as mail. HID07601242017
