Results for benjamin franklin

Few names in American history are more recognizable than that of Benjamin Franklin. Born in Boston during the early 1700s to an English father, Franklin went on to become one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and crucial to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. After settling in Pennsylvania, Franklin became actively involved in political life - which he would continue into his later years by campaigning for the abolition of slavery. Besides his political achievements, Franklin was also a renowned scientist and inventor, with his creation of the bifocal glass still helping the visually-impaired today. For many Americans, Benjamin Franklin today is synonymous with wealth and success, as his portrait is featured on the one hundred-dollar bill. From 1948 to 1963, Franklin was also depicted on the half-dollar coin; today, these coins can be valuable amongst numismatists, with some selling at auction for hundreds of dollars.
