Sloans & Kenyon was founded in 2003, when C.G. Sloan & Co. was purchased by Stephanie Kenyon. They host six to eight catalogued auctions a year, in addition to monthly collector's auctions, and while they specialise in art, antiques, and collectibles, Sloans & Kenyon also holds estate sales, meaning that they deal in a wide variety of items. Their specialist departments include Americana, books and manuscripts, European furniture, jewelry and armor. Sloans & Kenyon is a platinum member with Invaluable.com and frequently hosts online sales.

The auction house has attracted notable artworks and historical items, such as an 18th-century oil painting of the Grand Canal in Venice, sold at Sloans & Kenyon in 2009 for $687,125. It was originally estimated to sell for $6,000 to $8,000, but is believed to be the most expensive painting ever sold in the Washington, D.C. area. Other important items sold at Sloans & Kenyon include Frank Lloyd Wright drawings and an 1860s walnut bed similar to the bed in the White House's Lincoln bedroom.
