Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions are a UK 'top 5' auctioneer of fine art and collectibles. As part of The Stanley Gibbons Group plc they are the only UK stock-exchange listed firm of auctioneers and occupy the same stable as coin specialists Baldwin’s and Fraser's Autographs.
Established in 1759, they have the broadest and most regular calendar of specialist catalogued sales in the industry numbering over 150 per annum. They provide vendors and buyers alike market-leading specialist advice in any number of collecting fields. They operate from salerooms in London’s Mayfair, Donnington Priory (near Newbury), Bristol and Godalming. They also operate a franchise in Rome (Italy).

Amontons (Guillaume)\nRemarques et Experiences Phisiques sur la Construction d'une Nouvelle Clepsidre sur les Barometres,\n\nTermometres, & Higrometres, first edition , engraved frontispiece, 7 folding engraved plates, some light browning to text, ex-Macclesfield Library copy with small unobtrusive embossed stamp to head of frontispiece and title and South library bookplate, handsome sprinkled sheep, gilt, spine gilt with red morocco label, a little rubbed, joints cracked, slight wear to spine ends but still a good copy, 12mo, Paris, Jean Jombert, 1695.\n\n⁂ The author's only book, for which he was elected to the Académie des Sciences. The frontispiece shows a classical figure with an old pendulum clock and holding up Amontons's new clepsydra while another figure calibrates a siphonic clepsydra on a pedestal behind. His new clepsydra, a steadily sinking marker within a sealed glass tube, could, he claimed, have several uses including as a 24 hour timer, a means of determining longitude and measuring pulse rates.
